Downtown Utility Box Project
The OCDC, working with volunteers from the Art League of Ocean City, completed the painting of 10 downtown utility boxes between March 2004 and October 2004. The local electrical company, Conectiv, provided approval to paint their utility boxes. The OCDC cleaned and primed the boxes while Art League volunteers designed and painted the utility boxes. The OCDC purchased the paint and supplies for this project. This project took hundreds of volunteer hours and has added another reason to visit downtown Ocean City. This project is a noteworthy addition to the OCDC Downtown Public Art Program. The OCDC greatly appreciates the efforts put forth by the Art League members and particularly its project coordinator, Jody Veader.
During the spring of 2004, the four local area high schools of Worcester County each painted a Delmarva Power utility box along Philadelphia Avenue in downtown Ocean City. This one day project involved substantial coordination between the Worcester County School Board, the art teachers of the four high schools, student volunteers, and the OCDC. The OCDC provided the materials (paint, brushes, and refreshments) and the high schools provided the volunteer labor.
