New Facility Set to Open This Fall, Strengthening Public Safety and Community Access in Downtown Ocean City

Ocean City, MD — The Ocean City Development Corporation (OCDC), in partnership with the Ocean City Police Department, the Town of Ocean City, Gillis Gilkerson, and the Becker Morgan Group, is proud to announce the completion of the ribbon cutting for the brand-new OCPD Downtown Substation, located at the southwest corner of S. Baltimore Avenue and Somerset Street.

This morning’s ceremony included remarks from Mayor Rick Meehan, OCDC Board President Joe Wilson, and Chief of Police Raymond J. Austin, who emphasized the long-term impact this new facility will have on the downtown community. The substation is expected to officially open this fall.

The new building will expand OCPD’s presence in the downtown area while offering a more accessible, responsive hub for residents, visitors, and business owners alike. Once open, the facility will include:

  • Office, meeting, and interview spaces for OCPD personnel

  • A public-facing lobby for community interaction

  • A bicycle repair garage and storage area for the department’s bicycle unit

  • Convenient public restrooms located near the off-island shuttle stop

  • Housing for municipal employees on the third floor

"This project represents a strategic investment in downtown revitalization, community safety, and access to public resources," said OCDC Board President Joe Wilson. "We’re grateful to the many partners who helped bring this vision to life."

Special recognition was given to OCDC Board Member Kevin Gibbs, who initiated the process, along with the full support of the OCDC board, the Ocean City Mayor and Council, and the collaboration of project partners Gillis Gilkerson and the Becker Morgan Group.

The substation was completed on time and on budget, and is set to welcome the community this fall as a central, welcoming space for public safety, community engagement, and municipal support.
